ATV stands for All Terrain Vehicle. 4 wheel ATV’s are sometimes referred to as quads. Qaud riding on ATV trails or dirt roads (off road riding) is legal in many state and national parks. It is usually necessary to acquire an all terrain vehicle permit or license to ride in these areas. Many private ATV parks or race tracks, charge admittance fees upon entry. ATV dealers sell permits for many state parks and recreational areas.   ATV riding is generally relegated to “2 track” and not meant for single track motorcycle trails.
