ATV Riding

ATV Riding

ATV stands for All Terrain Vehicle. 4 wheel ATV´s are sometimes referred to as quads. An ATV also may consist of 6 wheels or more. Most people do not consider 2 wheel off road motorcycles or dirt bikes as ATV´s. You can get an ATV in different configurations such as; 4 wheel drive, 2 wheel drive and some that would be considered a utility ATV. The majority of the ATV´s sold are built for ATV racing or off road riding.

ATV or quad bikes are manufactured by a variety of companies including, Polaris, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM and Can Am. There are other ATV manufacturers including some low quality Chinese products. Every major city has a number of ATV dealers to choose from.

ATV riding on ATV trails or dirt roads (off road riding) is legal in many state and national parks. It is usually necessary to acquire an ATV permit or license to ride in these areas. Many private ATV parks or race tracks, charge admittance fees upon entry. ATV dealers sell permits for many state parks and recreational areas. ATV riding is generally relegated to “2 track” and not meant for single track motorcycle trails.

ATV riding is popular with hunters and fisherman, farmers, ranchers, contractors as well as sport enthusiasts. ATV riding and ATV racing has reached an all time high and is increasing in popularity every year. ATV´s represent the fastest growing segment in the off-road.

If you are planning an ATV riding adventure, search SportLodging.com for all the areas that have ATV riding, ATV dealers, ATV rentals etc. Under the Sports heading choose ATV / Quad then the map will show all the areas where ATV riding is available. You can then narrow the search by selecting any area or location to see what ATV riding is available.

ATV riding in BLM managed areas or areas open to riding in the National Parks constitute some of the best opportunities for fun and photos. ATV riding is fun for the whole family. There are also ATVs made for children of all levels. Make sure to check with your ATV dealer for the appropriate ATV, riding gear and other safety equipment.
