Bicycling / Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is an exciting and physical sport of riding bicycles off-road on bikes with suspension systems made for rugged terrain.  These durable machines sport knobby tires, front and sometimes rear shock absorbers.  Most mountain bikes have multiple gear choices or speeds and are specifically geared low for climbing.  Disc brakes are even available of the better mountain bikes.

There are different types of mountain bike riding specifically: cross-country, downhill, freeride and trials.  The majority of mountian bikes are used for trail ridding on singletrack trails, jeep roads or fire roads.  This is often referred to as cross country riding.  Downhill riding is usually too steep to go up and are generally used by only more experienced riders.  Many ski resorts are open in the summer and allow downhill riders to use their ski lifts (for a charge) to bring their bikes to the top of the slopes for an exhillerating downhill ride.
