Canoeing
Canoeing
Canoeing
is a fun sport that can be very mellow, relaxing or thrilling and dangerous depending on the body of water involved. Canoeing is ofter reffered to as a paddle sport as is kayaking. A canoe is propelled by a paddle but in some rapid bodies of water, such as a fast river, it is used more to steer as the water provides the thrust.
Some canoes are propelled by poles or sails. The main difference between a canoe and a kayak is that the kayak is a closed-deck vessel and the canoe is generally open-decked. There are some close-decked canoes on the market used in competetion.
Canoeing can be done on almost anybody of water such as; oceans, lakes, and rivers. Rivers are the most popular canoeing venue as they can provide a relaxing or exhilerating ride (sometimes on the same river) as well as beautiful scenery. Many popular rivers attrack large crowds of canoe goers and many are armed (with high powered squirt guns). Be prepared to get wet - it's fun!
