Motorcycling - Off Road

The world of off road motorcycling (usually reffered to as dirt bikes) includes, trail riding and racing.  Trail riding on dirt bikes, or off-road motor bikes as they say in other contries, is done on legal trails (single track and double track), jeep roads, and fire roads.

Dirt bike riding is done in almost every terrain such as mountains, deserts, beach, woods and pasture.  Generally legal riding areas are managed by the state BLM (Bureau of Land Management see: www.blm.gov) or the National Forest Service (see: http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/programs/ohv/index.shtml), local government or private individuals or companies. You can get permits for riding in many BLM and Forest Service areas by clicking on the Maps and Licenses tap on the home page of SportLodging.com (http://www.sportlodging.com/stateinfo.asp) but you will need to select the sport (off road motorcycling in this case) and the state first

Many off road motorcycle riders and racers prefer single track trails to "two track" or "double track" such as jeep roads. Single track is generally more challenging, more scenic and more fun, plus you don't have to worry about running into a slower moving ATV or 4 wheeler.  Please observe all the rules and regulations for riding in these areas, most importantly; stay on the trail. If you are a member of the off road motorcycle commumity then please do your part to help keep the trails open.
