Dirt Bike Racing

There are so many intricate aspects that are associated with dirt bike riding that a new rider has to understand, imbibe, practice and implement step by step. This can be a lot to earn on one’s own as it is not easy to spot the mistakes made in the process of riding off road motorcycles. An expert trainer will be the best and the wisest choice to fine tune and hone your dirt bike riding and racing skills.

There are certain key basics that you need to keep in mind before you start dirt bike racing. They are:

  • Body Position: Know where to put your body, correct weight distribution, when to weight the foot pegs, balance while sitting and standing.
  • Handle Bar Controls: brakes, clutch and throttle.
  • Knowing how to be comfortable and light on the dirt bike. In other words, you need to let the bike do what it should with you guiding and controlling it.
  • Mastering techniques for cornering.
  • Learning to make good and fast starts.
  • Learning braking and acceleration on down hills and up hill, including body position.
  • Learning to jump.  This is the last area to tackle and may require the most skill.

You also need to get an understanding of things like turning with your feet (using the pegs for the purpose of steering); accelerating (using stomach muscles, not handlebars); Off Camber situations (peg weighting & steering), etc. You should also how exactly to maintain traction in nasty, loose places.

There are many other areas in which you need to develop insight and practical knowledge. Check here for Randy's tips so that you are confident enough to get started in challenging dirt bike racing. You will learn where to get correct instructions - things like what kind of bike and gear you require, where to practice and maybe even find a good local instructor.
