Dune Buggy Exhaust
Another question to be asked is whether exhaust runners are to be of the same length for optimum performance. The answer is both yes and no. Its presence tends to create a ‘negative’ pressure on the tube just next to it to assist in scavenging or sucking out the exhaust that there is on the next cylinder.
The size of the tubes should ideally be the same as the exhaust valve (or port) area. Bigger diameter will slow down the exhaust speed and also cool the flow into the turbo. Ideally, the length should not be more than 125% of cylinder displacement. In fact, you would prefer the exhaust to be short simply because the heat is needed. The logic is that exhaust is still expanding while it comes out, and you want it to happen inside the turbo.
To sum it up, the rule of thumb is keeping it short and sweet. Also, do not forget the Chrome Tail Pipe Kit, which is equally important.
